The RSPH Level 2 Award in Encouraging Physical Activity is an Ofqual-regulated qualification designed to give learners the knowledge and confidence to help others adopt a more active lifestyle. The qualification covers all forms of physical activity, including everyday movement, active travel, recreational activities, structured exercise and sport. Learners develop an understanding of the wide health benefits of being physically active and gain insight into the common reasons why people may be inactive.


The course explores the social, psychological and environmental barriers that limit participation, as well as the practical ways individuals can be supported to add more movement into their lives. It provides simple, effective methods for encouraging and motivating people to change their behaviour in a positive and sustainable way.


This qualification is suitable for anyone interested in health promotion or wellbeing support. It is relevant to roles in education, community work, care settings, fitness, workplace wellbeing and public-health environments. With 6 guided learning hours and a total qualification time of 10 hours, it offers an accessible and focused introduction to supporting physical-activity behaviour change.

By completing this qualification, learners will be able to support individuals and communities in making meaningful improvements to their health by increasing their engagement in physical activity.
