Level 4 Certificate in Nutrition for Physical Activity and Sport RSPH (QCF)

Description

Course Info:

The RSPH Level 4 Award in Nutrition is an Ofqual-regulated qualification designed to give learners a solid, in-depth understanding of the science of nutrition and its impact on health, wellbeing, and performance. It provides a comprehensive exploration of how nutrients function in the body, how dietary choices affect health, and how nutrition supports physical activity, recovery and long-term wellbeing.

The qualification aims to develop a thorough understanding of the nutritional requirements for a healthy diet, the relationship between diet and disease, and the importance of hydration. Learners study macro- and micro-nutrients, their functions, sources and uses, alongside the energy and nutrient needs of individuals at different stages of life. The course also examines how social, cultural, religious and ethnic factors can influence food choices and dietary patterns across different population groups.

A key component of the qualification is learning how legislation applies to food labelling, advertising and nutrition or health claims, enabling learners to recognise how food information should comply with legal standards.

This qualification is designed for individuals working or intending to work in roles where an understanding of nutrition is important. It is particularly relevant to those in fitness, health, catering, leisure, care or education, especially if they promote healthy eating or design and prepare meals, menus or diets for the public or for active individuals of all abilities.

The qualification comprises 35 guided learning hours, with a total qualification time of 65 hours and a credit value of 7. It is suitable for anyone seeking to develop their knowledge of nutrition in a structured, evidence-based way, even if they are not working as a registered dietitian.

For professionals involved in health, rehabilitation, exercise performance or athlete support, the Level 4 Award in Nutrition strengthens practical expertise and enhances the ability to make informed, responsible nutritional recommendations within an appropriate scope of practice.
